did the same experiment too last year. 10 suddenly drops to 0. (or 5. hell, you really can't tell when using API)
do this on a skimmerless and the tank ends up with lots of brown goop.
anyway, the sudden drop of nitrates is really intriguing, but i can't seem to link sugar to nitrate reduction. sugar is carbon and hydrogen, while nitrates are from nitrogen.
something's amiss.
oh, BTW (OT)
pappone (the italian coral food) also has sugar in it.
