Predator Tank

Postby mikefirefox » Thu Apr 06, 2006 2:55 am

I am in the process of stocking up an aggressive/predator type tank. I already have 3" Triggers (Clown & Niger) in this 100G FOWLR tank and am planning to put more 3" triggers (Undulated, Blueline, Picaso, or Pink Tail) soon.

I am also thinking of getting a 3" Saddle Back, Miniatus or Panther grouper to mix with the triggers.

Has anyone kept (or still keeping) any of the above fish and what other fish have you sucessfully stocked with them?

Mike, if you have a large tank you may add more trigger fish but make sure keep their sizes almost the same because the bigger triggers might dominate the smaller ones resulting wounding them.

Going back to Mikefirefox original thread...

1) Please reconsider your stocking too many triggers in a 100gal. They may be 3 inches only today, but they will outgrow your tank soon (with a lot of food, these guys can grow real quickly).

2) I have kept the following tough fishes in the past (IME they can often hold their own against other aggressive fish, yet they are still relatively easy to feed/keep). IMHO I suggest you consider some of them. But some of them do grow quite big as well.
- Harlequin Tuskfish (Choerodon Fasciatus)
- Coral Hogfish (Bodianus Mesothorax)
- Six-lined Grouper (Grammistes Sexlineatus) - but sometimes releases toxic slime when attacked/stressed!
- Blue-lined Snapper (Lutjanus Kasmira)
- Emperor Snapper (Lutjanus Sebae)
- Moon Wrasse (Thalassoma Lunare)
- squirrelfish/soldierfish (Sargocentron sp / Myripristis sp) - but thay just hide at day

I'm sure the other guys can also recommend their favorite predator fishes...

Have fun,

Mikefirefox, what happened to your collection of fishes on this thread below, in your 100 gallon? http://www.reefphilippines.com/forums/v ... ght=#20280

And here too, did move them into a bigger tank already? http://www.reefphilippines.com/forums/v ... ght=#20387

i suggest not to keep an undulated trigger, i have 1, it is a very hardy fish, but is also a killer, pinapatay nya halos lahat ng fish exept clown fish.. ang grouper ko pinatay din, mas malaki pa sa kanya, ang picasso trigger ko pinatay din.. killer ang undulated trigger, i suggest not to keep one, sa sump ko nilagay ang undulated trigger ngayon..
I am new here

i got a tank the family called the carnivorous tank

4 kinds of dogfish,(my favorite yon leopard ang itsura) average size 4 inch
clown trigger 5 inch
picasso trigger 3 inch plus
stripped trigger 4 inches
2 panther 5 inches
2 groupers 6 inches
red snapper 4 inches

over six months na at least sila and they grew almost double on average since i got them except the clown which i already got it fairly big and it doesnt grow as fast

i feed them guppies twice day,a bags worth total daily,as well as omega garlic pellets, assorted small fish bought from the market pero guppies is their primary food as in 85%

this tank is barely 50 gallons with a 5 gallon balde as sump, beleive it or not ,i only use live rocks for maintaining this tank,i even wonder where all the fish waste go to,as it should be a whole lot

my daughter calls them monster fish tank
my only maintenance is water change 20% a week, its a BBT na occupied by live rocks only and the fish siguro the rocks occupies 25% space volume of the setup, the water is always clear, parang the dirt consolidates as detrius sa floor which once a month use a hose to suck them out

also i add a pitcher of mineral water almost everyday

i got this problem, walang namamatay for so long and they grew and grew, and they are now too crowded

so the system is 1 tank,1 balde, overhead pump with box where i use
to maintain filter but not anymore and live rocks and 1 air pump airstone pala

clown trigger ang salbahe,nangangagat :x

ah..yes,the lighting...i might get shot for this, its a daylight 24 inch T5 lamang, which i turn off at night para matulog sila, yon isda yata tumitibay pati immune system kung tulog sa gabi
