WHAT IS ICH?
ICH (C. irritans -Cryptocaryon irritans) is is a ciliate protozoanparasite found in sea water. Like all life forms, ICH have a number of stages inits life cycle.
Introduction Of ICH:
Phase 1 -Trophont:
Fish is Infected with ICH that has burrowed into the skin and gillsof the fish forming a protective outer covering. The parasite then feed ontissue fluids and skin, growing until they mature.
Phase 2 - Tomont:
The Mature parasites then emerge from their protective outer coveringand drop to the bottom of the tank where they then encapsulate on the *substrate and rocks, where they then begins to divide internally into hundredsof single-celled parasites. In fact, one Tomont can hatch as many as onethousand theront
Phase 3 - Theront:
This is the Free-Swimming Microscopic Parasite Stage where theTHERONT seeks a suitable host and begins the process allover again.
The time that is takes from the time that the mature parasite detaches fromthe fish and the re-infection of fish is about 2 weeks at normal tanktemperatures. Thus, "Ich" may appear to clear up but then comes backeven stronger.
* NOTE:
In the Reef System the water flow will disperse the TOMONT throughout thesystem. TOMONTS may then encapsulate on any portion of the system, including glass and acrylic walls.
Since maraming nagtatanong how to get rid of ich from NSW, eto yung mga popular methods:
Heater Method:
Sir Jolt's method
Ich is intolerant of elevated temperature, use an aquarium heater to raise water temperature a few degrees.
You need not boil the water.
Hyposalinity:
Adding freshwater to your NSW can also kill ich. Pwede na siguro 1.010 specific gravity or maybe lower. Watch out for unwanted nutrients in your tapwater. Always remember to add saltmix afterwards to correct SG and salinity.
Water Stocking:
Sir apol's method.
If Ich does not have a host to feed upon, Ich will eventually die from starvation. Stock for about a month.
Chlorination:
Using chlorine to kill ich is also effective, add some chlorine to your NSW, aerate it for 24 hours or so and add a dechlorinator (Anti-Chlorine in your LFS) afterwards. Do Not Use Household Bleach as it contains other chemicals aside from Chlorine.
Pwede ring UV method, or a combination of the following methods.
Hope this helps.
can we make this sticky, mga sir mods?
