144Wx3 - 3W array LED DIY - Paul's Reef

Postby paulmt8 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 11:19 pm

I’m planning a new 3W array DIY to replace my previous 252W LED build below.

Image

I will update this thread as detailed as possible to help other hobbyist who wants to try the difficult but cheaper option of doing it yourself.

Why DIY? If I will use branded LED fixture, just imagine how many units do you need for a 96x24x24 tank $$$$$
4 AI vega or 3 Hydra52 or 3 Maxpect Razor or 4 Radions = approximately 100k - 150k. 3x to 5x more expensive.

The Plan: 6x 63W module (good for 8ft tank) - Configuration of LEDs inspired by Maxpect Razor (no red and green)

Image

This will be powered by 6x Inventronics 66W dimmable driver with 3 channels.

Image

..... and will be controlled by Reef Angel

Image

Estimated cost: 36,000 for the 6 modules (6,000 per module), without the Reef Angel :)

Drivers, lenses and LEDs will be arriving on Thursday from SG.

I will try my best Aaron. Yun din ang objective ko, para madami mag DIY. Actually I'm revising the design right now. Medyo may changes sa specs ng drivers na unexpected.

Finally, all the needed parts already arrived. I also changed my heat sink from 12in per module to 18in.

LEDs and drivers are complete with excess for experiments

First, apply thermal glue to the PCB/heatsink side of the LED enough to stick on your aluminum heatsink. Dry overnight. Tip: make all positive polarity face right for easier wiring connection. Make construction lines using a pencil to make sure your layout will be symmetrical.
