DIY LED setup

Postby created2praise » Wed Nov 02, 2011 12:15 am

parts/equipments needed

LEDs - better to have 10000K cool white LEDs, wattage depends on the tank specs (corals that you have or want to have)

Existing in the market are 1W, 3W, 5W, 10W, 20W and so on

I used 6500K in my tank coz I haven't found a reliable source for higher color temps yet.

Drivers - there's a lot of LED drivers with different specs.. I used 10W 900mA- 1A constant current source.. Autovolt AC input with 9-12Vdc out. This will drive 3pcs of 3W Led with a Vf (Forward voltage) ~ 4V

Heatsink - could be used as a fixture to lessen the price

Soldering Iron/Gun, Lead

Wires, plugs, Switches

Drill with bit

Skills required:
Soldering
Electronics - not needed if you have the same setup

Here's the pictures of the LEDs and the Driver that I will be using

Sir saan galing driver niyo? Ok to since walang case, pwede natin i-reverse engineer yung driver.. Baka makagawa tayo ng modified version niyan..
Also i suggest that you use a driver with a 700mA output.. Overdriven kasi pag nasa 900mA.. Mas mabilis masisira yung leds niyo..

curious lng poh me if driver po ba 2? tingin ko po kc power supply with 12V output using a isolating transformer... pero ok po sya npailaw nmn nya yung mga LED..

good job!!!

driver yan.. max voltage niyan 12V.. pero constant current (CC) output niya.. meaning pag mareach niya yung current na naka set, bababaan niyan yung output voltage para ma maintain yung output current niya.. try mo loadan yan ng resistor na mag cause ng output current na less than the CC output niya, the voltage would be 12V and the output current would be 12/resistance.. when the current reaches the CC setting, yung voltage naman babaguhin niya.. thats how CC drivers works..

if the schematic of that driver is available and the components are locally available, then we can make the same driver rated for different number of LEDs and currents..

panung flyback driver sinasabi sir obet?
yap planning me na gumawa ng power supply ska led driver.. il try yung madaling driver lng using a LM317... pero nag iicip pa rin me kse mura na yta yung nabili ni peperghost n driver.. 450pesos b yun? can lighted 11 leds.. kso 680mA lng yung current nya.. sana man lng nsa middle ng 700mA-750mA..

ooppss bka OT n me d2.. sensya n po..

ano yung voltage doupler bro? iba ba yun sa voltage doubler? ni search ko sa google walang lumabas.. clarify mo lang bro.. paano ka gagawa ng voltage doubler? you cant make a voltage doubler pag DC yung input current mo unless you use an IC and fets para magkaroon ng AC voltage.. also, if you double the voltage using any circuit, you wont be able to have the same current, nevertheless have a higher output current.. output power is always less than the input power.. hindi ko bro magets yung unang paragraph mo.. pakiexplain lang ulit para malinaw..

here's the thing sa LEDs.. power LEDs need a constant current, 320mA for 1W LEDs, 680-700mA for 3W LEDs.. other higher power LEDs are just a combination of smaller power LEDs.. every LED has a different voltage drop, Vf.. if you look sa datasheet ng leds may range yung Vf nila.. 3.7-4V sa 3W.. kaya you need a constant current driver to driver these LEDs.. kaya naka series para same current sila lahat.. pag nandun na kasi yung leds sa operating current nila, konteng change lang sa voltage nila, ang laking change sa current.. this can be seen sa V-I graphs ng LEDs..

with regards to an lm317, paano mo titimplahin yung current? ano yung input voltage mo dun? the best way to have a constant current output with a LM317 is to have a resistor sa adj at output pin ng 317.. yung resistor value should be equal to 1.25 / desired current.. tapos lagay mo yung leds sa adj pin.. ok na yung CC 317 regulator..
