Protein Skimmer - Resun sk300

Hi brothers/sisters, anyone already used or is familiar with the protein skimmer resun sk300? I know it is one of the cheap ones but if it does the job then it is noteworthy to consider it

I bought one and installed it the other day, bubbles were present but I was disappointed as nothing gets to the filtering cap.

A fellow reefer advised me to just continue using it as it takes days for the skimmer to work so I did (even though I was apprehensive since it consumes electricity), lo and behold, just this morning when I was doing my routine parameter check, there were already some waste in the cap.

I am very new at this hobby and am getting all information and advises here at the RP (which really really helps a lot).

btw the sk300 is rated only up to 25 gal (my tank is 50gal including sump- my bad ) my premise was just to buy 1 first and if it works then I'll add one more in my sump to get total rate of 50gal (does it makes sense or it's a stupid plan? hehe)

I think it is better to sell that and buy another one rated higher or rated for your total tank's water volume.

Here are my reasons:
1. Adding another skimmer will reduce space for other equipment that you might want to add in your sump.
2. Adding another skimmer will need another pump to run it.
3. Adding another pump will cost you higher electric bills per month and will surely add more heat to your water.
4. more skimmer = more cleaning. remember, cleaning is not just for the skimmer but also the pumps used for those skimmer.

Thats all i can think for now. Maybe some people may add more.

Thanks for the feedback, it makes a lot of sense replacing it with a higher rating. Now if only there is someone who would sell me their RO skimmer haha

normal po ba sa Sk300 na laging puno ung collection cup? yung sakin kasi wala pang 12hrs puno na. hindi nmn super dumi ng tubig sa collection cup. tinry ko na ifully open yung outlet nung water at itaas ung placement ng skimmer para sumakto lang sa ilalim ng cup yung bubbles pero bilis pa rin mapuno

Normal lang yun dahil maliit lang capacity ng cup nya.

try mo gawin yung water level sa skimmer mo ibaba mo sa ilalim ng collection cup.

Yung pang tinaas mo yung collection cup walang magooverflow na water galing sa skimmer mo. In that way, ang papasok lng sa collection cup mo ay yung mga sticky bubbles na nag form na from the skimmer and that would make it more darker than what you're usually getting.

try mo lang. baka tumagal ng mas matagal yung pag puno ng cup mo at mas madumi makuha. Pag sobra taas kasi ng bubbles mo marami rin water pmapasok kaya hindi siya ganon ka dumi.

question din tungkol sa skimmer na to, ok lang ba kung medyo tabinge yung pag sabit niya sa tank? masyado malaki kasi yung inner rim ng aquarium ko kaya nag DIY na lang ako
