I thought I'd share this pic with you. According to Dr. Ron, this is a sponge spawning, emitting sperm "smoke"!
Look at the source of the "smoke" at the lower right hand side. You'll see a tee-tee (that's the scientific name) sticking out of the rock
This went on for more than 15 minutes! Hey, macho men, can you beat that? It gave me a chance to get my camera, shoot a few pics, and get a sample of the "smoke" using a lab pipette. Under a microscope, the sperm looked spherical, single celled, and moved in jerky fashion. Walang buntot. Sabi ni Dr. Ron, the female sponge will ingest the sperm, and eventually release larvae. Yung larvae and may buntot. Needless to say, my tank has tons of sponges. Hindi yung panglinis ng plato
Living and filter feeding sponges!
The skimmer went crazy. Unobserved spawning is probably why sometimes the skimmer collection cup gets full for no apparent reason. The SPS slimed up, probably ate lots of sper.... yuk!
So, what's up with my tank? The clowns are laying eggs, the banggais have babies, sponges are spawning. Shhh, here's my secret. I play Barry White's love songs. j/k
BTW, if you want to see more pictures of the spawn, I posted them in my gallery.
