Killing Aiptasia w/ Laser

Hi guys,
Like to get some feedback or comments on the subject. Saw some thread on the subject at RC just wondering in if anyone have any experience with it?

Had a severe case of aiptasia already tried using copperband angel, Aiptasia x and even a zapper with little success. I eventually had to remove all my LR out of the tank . Dried and killed off the aiptasia ( So i thought ) ......along with some of my long time corals

colonies of zoas died :cry:

Now what dreaded most " The Return of the Aipasia" they are popping back in my reef tank !

available in the US. Its 1.2W ... but it could be disastrous to LS as they could be blinded by the light. Also, not sure if the glass and water can retract the laser thus making it inaccurate or dangerous to surrounding LS.

Just to add,

I have a friend here in Seattle that fixed his Aptasia problem by electrocuting them. So kinuryente niya isa isa. He is just using a 12 volt DC 1 amp. Nilagay niya so mahabang plastic pvc tapos yung dulo ay nandund yung dalawang wire. The ends of the wires are not touching but spaced maybe 1/4" from one another. Space enough to put the aptasia head in between the wires. Then he has a switch to turn it on and zapped them.

So this is not always on, it needs a switch. I believe you should see an arc in between. Its strong enough to kill aptasia but not strong enough to electrocute everything in the tank.

I havent tried this, He just showed it to us on one of the reef club meetings "show and tell".

Cesar : already got myself a Majano Wand, took sometime but eventually mastered its use. Quite effective if you are able to reach the aiptasia. The problem is the hard to reach spaces ....under and in between LRs.

Aqua reef : yup that seems to be the one . Have not decided though .

dean yun cbb ba di naging successful.. i usually add cbb every 4-5 months to control my aptaisia population... and its always a success... it will take some time to start eating the aptaisia... and i found out that if you feed less frozen food, aptaisia wont go back asap... hth

Marlon & I was planning to have one but having second thoughts coz we are afraid we might end up getting our eyes injured during use

The Laser beam could get deflected once you are not careful enough in initial aiming of the target & hits the glass instead which can bounce back anywhere. :roll:

I bought copperband butterfly wala desperada na. I tried joe juice pero I'm too lazy I guess. Binu-bully lang ng PBT ko yung CBB sana hindi bumigay mukang peace loving pa naman.

Maybe this following livestock can help u guys with your aiptasia problem
Some are kinda reefsafe and some are not
Leather jacket filefish
Red legged hermit crab
Yellow longnose butterfly
Copperband butterflyfish
Peppermint shrimp
Berghia nudibranch( US lng ata sya available) ayon sa reefcentral
