my skimmer died on me for the 3rd time and i think it will be my last, i decommissioned my biopellets reactor for fear of bacterial bloom and wild ph swings... im done with skimmers...

ive searched the web for some skimmerless reef and found this very interesting reefer named marko haga... he 's running his biopellets skimmerless... IMPOSSIBLE read on

Rockstar. IMHO if u plan to get another skimmer. Yung mas ok na I mean branded na, yung trusted na ng fellow reefers natin. Goodluck sa tank mo bro. Sorry for your lost

Thats not a good idea to run BP skimmerless. Your system has to be very balanced to be able to do that and even then you would still need to monitor the tank very often. I know someone in singapore who ran his sps tank skimmerless and it was going great for a while but now his sps are all in STN mode so long term its really a bad idea. Perhaps you could pull it off with BP and lots and lots of airpumps since the PH swings come from the bacteria sucking up too much oxygen from your water but that would be the bare minimum.

On a side note, better just get yourself a better skimmer.

mga bros thanks sa tip, truth is nagkaroon nako ng parang light paranoia on skimmers... skeptical na mind ko on buying another skimmer for the 4th time... im contemplating on resurrecting my ATS system right now at least dito wala akong micro bubbles na iintindihin at wala akong bacterial blooms na makikita sa tank... thanks sa mga tip mga masters, really appreciate it

Skimmers are expensive but they work. If you go for the crappy skimmer, its just like buying a crappy TV that breaks down after a few months. Doesnt mean the TV is a bad idea.

What do you mean the skimmer died? Maybe you mean the skimmer pump?

bro thurmac what you are saying about going skimmerless and turning off your reactor might be a good idea but when you shift to ATS system you have to go very slowly because ats takes a long time to mature in the system. unlike a skimmer which starts to work after you turn it on.

Retrofit an appropriate Eheim pump to your skimmer. Meron ako enkamat (lots!) if you want to do the enkamat mod. Eheim pumps = lasts forever... or at least, a really long time...
