Dsb change it to live rocks fuge??

hi guys.i need your honest opinion here. me and sir random has a planned to change my dsb to a liverocks fuge ( cured live rocks). my dsb is running for a couple of years na.since nung nabili ko yung tank ko sa first owner hindi na nmin ginalaw or hinugasan yung dsb kasi sabi nila pra daw yung mga bacterias ay hindi ma deds. so as is yung dsb nung kunuha ko hindi ko na sya ginalaw..problem ksi hindi ko mapababa ang nitares ko after doing all those things to lower nirates(except vodka dosing and BP) naicip lang nmin bka sa dsb ang my problema na kasi matgal na sya..

my questions fellow reefers:
1.it is safe ba na palitan yung dsb sa purung live rocks?
2. ano advantage ng only live rocks sa dsb
3.ano mangyayari sa mga ls after changing dsb grdually to live rocks fuge..

our plan is remove dsb a cup or more every water change pra hindi mabigla ang system. RP any comments and suggestions is highly appreciated..thanks

likewise here i dont see any prob...ingat lang baka mabasag sump mo pag may magalaw or bumagsak, unless made of wood or concrete sump mo

I think the plan of taking a cup of LS from your dsb little by little is a NO NO! why?

- if your dsb is running that long... for sure a lot of harmful gasses are stored in that dsb... in removing it little by little will just release all the harmful gasses into your display tank. so im pretty sure that your zoas wont like it and some will melt for sure.

- its a different story if your going to remove a ssb (shallow sand bed) from your DT. you can do what your planning, removing one cup at a time... but having a deep sand bed have a lot of sulfur and harmful gasses in store...

- if i were on your shoes.... ill turn off the return pump, isolate your sump, remove all the sand in your dsb, remove all water on your sump, replace with new salt water, put dead rocks instead of LR because there will occur a mini cycle and i think your system wont handle it because of the sudden decrease of micro fauna in your tank. (disclaimer - this is my opinion only)

in my opinion din parang tama yung sabi niya... i think it would be better if you could isolate that chamber in your refugium... remove all the sand there and water that will become polluted from that removal and then put water just for now..... add the new LR later when your tank recovers from the loss of beneficial bacteria...

ganito... im planning to remove my rubble from my sump also... ill do mine first... if my system crashes then dont do yours! hehehe..... i plan to remove all my coral rubble in my first chamber coz its trapping detritus although i already have my benthic fuge up with DSB in it and i also have dsb in my tank with live rocks... i hope its enough to sustain and recover from that reduction of beneficial bacteria that my coral rubble has accumulated...

I used to have a dsb in my tank and I just removed all the sand and water in my sump in one go. IMO if you do it slowly it will just release harmful chemicals into your tank just as what christian said. The only difference is that I did not add more rocks to the fuge. I had plenty of rocks in my remote LR fuge under the cab which is totally separate from the dsb so i never really needed to add more LR.

Question Lang shandy at Christian mag uundergoe na ng mini cycle ulit tank ko if ever na tanggal Laman lahat ng sump at palitan ng bago??Hindi ba maging harmful sa mga LS pag cycle ulit??dried rocks ba o live rocks(cured rocks) talga??thanks mga bros.

IMO ganito gawin mo....

1. Cure new rocks in separate container with just a waterpump for 2-6 weeks using old tank water.
2. When LRs are cured, remove dsb and all water in the sump.
3. Put cured LR into your sump and add new saltwater into sump.

When i did this my tank had a mini cycle lang and everything went back to normal in 2 weeks time. LS was pretty much unaffected naman.

Yes, pwede dyan sa sump yung mga rocks na kukunin mo sakin. Btw, when are you getting them? Can you get them this weekend na? I really need to clean out the stuff in our garage.
