Here is an interesting experiment by Dr. Rob Toonen a couple of years back, there had been no solid conclusion because the factors involved are too many, but there is one thing they found out that's fairly true: denitrification can happen in all forms of substrate, whether it's DSB, SSB or plenum based.

Okay lang naman din. Since growing algae and chucking them out would be a form of nutrient export.

Kung matagal ang cycling time at kasama yung algae succession, dadating rin sa oras na mawawala yan. Given of course walang magiging additional source ng nutrients.

Yung kapitbahay ko isang taon ang cycling. Ganun ang kinalabasan.

Ako naman nung nagsimula uli nagWC ako kahit nung initial phase. Walang apparent difference sa pagWC during the last phase.

Whichever would be the most convenient and efficient for you; at depende rin yan sa balak ilagay. after all, walang mas may makakaalam ng mga tanke natin kundi tayo mismong may-ari.

^Tama! Ako dun sa experience ko na pag cycle ng 12 weeks, nag WC na rin ako on the latter part kasi natakot na ko sa algae infestation ng tank. diatoms are really nasty b*stards. Hehehe.

And so anyway, eto na update!:)

After 12 weeks of cycling, iniscrub ko na ang algae (ang hirap nito sobra ) and did about 60% water change..


Finally! Minor WC na lang and its stocking time!

Nitrates still at 10ppm. continous WC lang hanggang bumaba...

Also natakot yung firefish when I introduced the cleaner shrimp. Di pa rin lumalabas mga 3 days na. Lalabas pa kaya yun? Any experience?

Currently struggling with diatoms.

Still doing weekly 20% wc. Nsw has 0 nitrates. Tank water is maintained at 5ppm nitrates. Only ocellaris and clenaer shrimp as livestock.

Ano kaya cause? Time to buy PO4 test kit? Only have a small skimmer for nutrient export. Feeding only five pellets every other day and all consumed by the clown and shrimp.

No macro algae, ats, nor reactors.

Redfield ratio issue? High Silicates? Any suggestions will help

perfectly normal for young tanks even with apparently low levels of nitrates, because the sandbed lacks microfauna that would eat the diatoms , and bacteria can convert bound nutrients for algae to utilize. Cerith and nerites are nice CUCs for diatoms. Collonista snails are awesome as well, but they tend to stay on liverocks and seldom go on the sandbed. You may want to check your phosphates too, better to keep it in check now than have other algae issues later.

Thanks marty. Haha naisip ko nga no right to complain dahil di ko alam PO4 levels ko plus the fact its still an infant tank.

Got a couple of nerites and turbos already sana makatulong.
