Cuteios 7.5G Nano Cube Project

Postby cuteios » Fri Apr 15, 2011 6:16 pm

Finally working on a new tank. Just got back from cartimar, I had them build me a 12x12x12 cube. It's going to be my new baby. I can't wait to get it all setup. Of course I can't really start setting up until sunday or monday, but whats a couple more days.

Hi thurmac, I'm not sure what you mean by DLBD. I had it slapped together at cartimar, I forget which of the stores.

Update: today is D-day. Got the materials to begin cycling.

The current setup:

7G 12x12x12 cube AGA
4 Kgs fine white sand
4.5 Kgs LR
6G of sea water from Katrinas
Jebo 502 HOB
Temporary lighting 3 X 8W T5

I started the day with a single 8W T5 Blue light and this is what it looked like.

Aside from being murky it clearly needed a lot more light. So I did a little DIY and wired two more T5 lights I got at the hardware store, these are regular 8W T5 6500K daylights. But its definitely an improvement.

Ran out of budget for the test kit, but its on the top of my list for next payday

Week 1 update: I've stopped running the lights on their regular schedule. I was running the 3 x 8W T5 bulbs on a 10hr schedule but have been suffering from a major diatom bloom the past few days. I also noticed that I have a large population of Pods in the tank. I wonder what that means in terms of water quality.

Hoping to replace the temporary light with an LED fixture soon. I'm looking at approximately 24W of LED lighting courtesy of 9x 3W LEDs 6 x 3W Whites 10000K and 3 x 3W Blue at 450nm

Stocking time for my nano. I hope I don't go overboard. It's been a very very long month waiting to get to this point. The numerous crabs and snails hiding in my rocks have thrived very well in the past weeks.
