Quarantine tank question

It has been said and practiced that new fishes should go first to the QT for atleast 6 weeks before introducing to the main tank, and if medication needs arise it is also to be done in the QT for the reason that lots of medications have copper contents which is not good for the corals and inverts, and i have also read in sir chuck's website that it only takes a drop of contaminated water (water with presence of ich etc.) to contaminate an entire system.. my question is, what is the safest way to transfer a fish from the QT to the main tank without the danger of introducing even a drop of contaminated water or water with copper content to the main tank? thank you

Hi! I guess I had that same dilemma in the past. Due to an ich outbreak, I learned my lesson well to QT all fish bought from any LFS. What I did was, after quarantining my livestocks, I used a fish net then dipped the net with the fish in a fresh RO water to dissolve any or wash away the copper medication. No need to worry about the contaminated water (with ich) since it is medicated (therefore it is not "contaminated). I used this process everytime and it works.

another question... if for example you have a fish in your QT, then after 3 weeks you decided to add another fish and put it in your QT with the first fish, is it safe to add the first fish to the main tank after its 6 weeks quarantining period with the second fish just going into its 3rd week in the qt?
