Formalin Treatment Questions...

Postby robertjamesgallardo » Mon Jun 06, 2011 9:08 pm

Good day. just to share, here are two contrasting views about medicating fishes with formalin for brooklynella (plus questions):

I. from: http://www.reef-fanatics.com/forums/fis ... a-308.html
"Use the suggested dose DAILY, until the fishes are ok, not every other day like the bottle says.
If you have corals in the tank, use the formalin at night when the lights are off and corals are closed, formalin is harmless to the corals , bacteria and inverts.
Formalin will be in your water for only 2 hours, will be gone after that, its completely reef safe, believe me.
and a question:
from: http://www.reef-fanatics.com/forums/fis ... a-308.html
Also very important is to supplement with the Marc Weiss Marine Fish Vital, this product is very unique and contains 1 ingredient that is proven to help the fish get rid of the disease on his own." (-can i use sera aquatan for this as a substitute?)

II. from: http://www.reefland.com/forum/marine-fi ... ishes.html
"2) Success with this treatment has been poor for hobbyists. Scientifically it seems to work, but I could never find a hobbyist who had success by trying this method."
"17. Repeat pattern (treating EVERY OTHER DAY) until fish has had 5 such treatments (but no less than 3 total)."
and a question from: http://www.reefland.com/forum/marine-fi ... ishes.html
"20. When fish is deemed cured, throw away airstone and tubing."
(-why do you do this? i thought formalin will be gone?)

TIA :)
