Saltwater newbie

Hi guys,

Napadaan ako sa cartimar and nakakatuwa talaga nagsetup ng saltwater aquarium. i bought 25 gallon glass aquarium = 300 pesos and 1 pack seasalt, sand and filter and live rock daw.

question: running may aquarium for 3 days paano ko ba malalaman kung live rock talaga sya?

need your expert advise.

Welcome bro! Glad to have another enthusiast in this hobby. I hate to spoil the fun but starting a saltwater tank is not as easy as 1-2-3. The saltwater you bought, usually they call it here blue bag is one of the worst saltmix that is available right now. (Please refer to what happen to Bro Bok on this thread viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16728&hilit=bok) So if you are really serious in pursuing this hobby I would advice you to change saltmix as early as now.

BTW, meron ka na din ba hydrometer to measure the salinity of your water? also test kit to measure the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate level while cycling your tank. These are the essential things that you need to have first.

RE Live Rock, the term live rock itself doesn't mean na buhay yung rock na binenta sayo. Actually they are all dead rock since they came from skeletons of dead corals and other calcerous matter under the sea. They call it live rock because of microscopic and macroscopic organism that inhabit inside and outside that rock.

halos sa cartimar ko binili lahat and doon sa bakla he is in the middle ng shop n malapit sa open parking. i have freshwater aquarium 3 years na. pero mas tutuwa ako sa mga saltwater fishes they are lively and colorful.

bumili ako ng puffer and 5 n maliliit n isda now they are all dead. sabi nung bakla same lagn nman daw kagaya ng freshwater. pero dapat nagbasa basa muna ako before buying those fish.

ngaun walang laman ang tank ko. and base sa mga napapanuod ko sa youtube and sa mga nababasa ko dito mukang dapat buhayin ko muna ung rocks ko and dapat walang ammonia and nitrate sa water. i dont know if this is correct but parang wala namn nangyayari sa rocks tska blakish ung rocks hindi kgya sa mga nakapost dito and sa mga nappanuod ko sa youtube n ang liverock nila is mapula or maviolet. also parang madumi padin ung tubig ko planning to buy fast clear later.

yes po may hydrometer ako ung tag 200 sa cartimar ung floating.
any advise on where to buy corals/rocks/supplies.

Matanong lang, saan po location mo baka may malapit na reefer sayo ng matulungan ka sa simula.

Malabon po ako dagat dagatan. dumaan ako cartimar knina to check out some items n kulang pa sa tank ko.

bought a quick start from api - also some crushed corals.
sa tingin ko malinaw naman na ung tank ko parang yellowish lang cguro dahil sa background paint ng wall.


can you suggest a bottom/sand cleaner shrimp b or hermit crag kasi may napanuod ako sa youtube and nasugatan ung damsel sya because of the hermit.

also ano dapat ang umpisa ko na ialagay fish or bottom dweller?

bro dont plan to put any LS on it , hindi fully cycled ang tank mo

bro, magbasa ka muna sa mga threads dito, yung nakikita mo sa mga pula or violet sa mga bago , ay yan yung coralline algae, kusa tumutubo yan kapag matured na ang tank

so for now dont buy any livestock, just focus on cycling at wag ka magmadali, magpapalipad ka lang ng pera kapag nagmadali ka

at nabiktima ka nung baklang butanding sa cartimar

eto at nagbabasa ako lage everytime nasa office ako laging RF time. i will update you soon guys.
papadaanin ko muna ang January and immonitor ko muna ung tank ko? should i buy bottom dwellers 1st week n ng tank ko and clear n ung water nya.

added API quick starter.

Need to buys testing kits cguro pero mid january na at ang daming gastos ngaun December.
