Zoa problem

Postby richardhao » Thu Aug 01, 2013 8:44 am

Guys my zoas specially the bambams turns pale and are always half open.

My water parameters are: (all tested using API test kits)
NO3 : 5ppm
PO4 : undetectable
Alk : 8
Ph : 8.2
CA : 420

Dont have a Mag tester.

I'm using leds, and they have been in that place ever since.

Light intensity maximum was Ch1 55 Ch2 50

And my live rocks are full of the dark maroon-like algae, dont know if its macro but its a nuisance since the zoas dont spread over them, are these Dinos? they are not slimy and has a carpet-like texture when touched.

bro actino yun blue labeled bottle mas matapang sya compare sa red labeled bottle dalawa kasi yan, not sure kung ilang volumes yung red bottle coz ang gamit ko is blue and nakalagay sa bottle nya 20 volumes, now ang ratio is 1 cup of hydro perox blue mix sa 10 cups of NSW ng tank mo, after madip mo na zoas, rinse it and soak it first sa new nsw then back sa DT, got it bro actino

hahaha oks lang yan give them a week muna then idip mo ulit, and re cyano kahit sa rocks tumutubo mga yan and kung hindi nakafix rockscape mo idip mo din sa hydrogen mawawala yan 100% hehe, kaya siguro nagkaron ka ng cyano nag semi cycle tank mo eventually mawawala din mga yan kaso itreat mo zoas mo then from time to time linisin mo rocks nila like toothbrush para matanggal mga algaes and mas lamangan mo muna sa blues yung led mo kung pwede nga wala muna whites para mawala algaes mo, well it works for me but not sure if others will

not cyano, probably red turf algae. seems like you have water quality issues judging from the looks of the zoas.

Marty

If water quality what could be the problem? Other zoas are doing fine.

if turf algae is growing fast in your tank, that may be your biggest problem (nutrients are an issue, even if they register zero in your testkits) IME turf algae can easily kill corals, by allelopathy or just even by overgrowth.. even corallimorpharians and zoanthids are vulnerable.Best thing to do is find a way to eliminate it, and WCs will definitely help as well. Detritus may also promote more algar growth.
Cheers,
Marty
