mga sir, tanong ko lang sana kung ano talaga ang mga good benefits nyan sa ating karagatan?. marami na kase akong napatay na mga ganyan sa amin and kawawa naman sila,. i know na makakasama talaga sila sa mga corals lalo na pag mag outbreak yan sila. i just want to know kung ano talaga ang positive side nila. hehe thanks guys.

The crown-of-thorns starfish has gained notoriety as a threat to the coral reef ecosystem, particularly in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia. Overpopulation of crown-of-thorns has been blamed for widespread reef destruction. Birkeland (1985) describes the starfish as one of the most influential species in the diverse biotic communities that make up tropical coral reefs.

Some ecologists point out that the starfish has an important and active role in maintaining coral reef biodiversity, driving ecological succession. Before overpopulation became a significant issue, crown-of-thorns prevented fast-growing coral from overpowering the slower growing coral varieties.

not sure pero baka yung fast growing lang yung madalas niya makaencounter sa dami nila kaya yun yung madalas niya makain.

meron ka ba nito sir?

im originally from cebu and when i go dive there, our dive master always tells us to kill as many crown of thorns starfish as we can. they kill the corals and are in no way good. we take them up in nets and dry them. after that they are good fertilizer! haha
