Materials :
- 5" diameter sewer or drainage pipe (I got this free from our tubero)
- piece of Plexiglass or any plastic boards or glass (I got mine from our broken plexigass coffee table)
- pvc solvent or silicon gel
- sand paper
- Pentel pen or marker
- packing tape or scotch tape or electrical tape
- hacksaw blade (lagari ng bakal) without handle
- electric drill or soldering gun
Instructions :
1. Measure your tank from base to the top (height).
2. Cut the drainage pipe horizontally as per your measurement (height)
3. Measure the base of the pipe up to your desired water level and put packing tape around the pipe as your marker/guide
(water level should be above the tape marker. (figure 1)
4. For the water intake, you have 2 options.
a) Drill several holes on the pipe.
b) the usual grille type. I chose grille type in this project because it can take more water volume & serve as a surface skimmer. Mark 0.5cm in each gap, then cut the gaps vertically (from top to the water level).
(figure 2)
5. Cut the gaps using soldering gun or electric drill.
(figure 2)
6. Cut the pipe vertically in half. Make sure you marked a straight line from top to the base of the pipe.
7. Cut a piece of plexiglass or plastic board for the back & base cover. (glass is another option but it's difficult to cut a curve for the base cover. Square glass is also okay since the base will be covered with sand & liverock)
8. Use a sand paper to polish the cuts.
9. Glue the 3 pieces together (Half pipe, back & base cover) using PVC solvent. Make sure it's water tight.
