Moorish Idol keeping

Postby marvinpb » Wed Sep 09, 2015 11:15 am

Has anyone here been successful at keeping MI?
pashare naman ng tips..

I know they are very difficult fish to keep and that's the challenge.
I've tried for like 5x in the past and it all failed. Never kept one for more than a month.

Now I purchased again. Last na to, pag namatay di nako bibili uli

Moorish Idol
http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/detailed_image.cfm?pCatId=371
"Perhaps the most graceful of all marine fish, for many hobbyists, it is also one of the most difficult fish to keep because it is so difficult to feed. For all but the most expert hobbyist, it is better admired in the ocean or in a public aquarium rather than in a home tank."

I forgot to mention that this time 1 bought 5pcs MI- all at the same time

I've tried only one fish but failed 2 or 3 times.
I also tried a pair (not really a pair but 2pc)-failed

Now 5
I thought that due to their schooling nature, more might have a better chance of survival.

after 1 day,
2 or 3 of them are already eating
I see some aggression, specially during feeding. I guess they are establishing their pecking order.
1 eats a lot and he's a bully, like he doesn't want the others to eat.

they are in the last compartment of my sump (about 15g volume), with pumps and some rocks.
cramped but I want them to feed first before going to DT (no QT)

I bet it is something simple that has not been recognized yet. Like with blue ribbon eels: the reason they don't eat is because they know their long body is visible; if you give them a long pipe to put their body in, they eat every time.

Maybe something similar for Idols, something that has nothing to do with food.
