clown trigger care

Postby merwil » Thu Dec 19, 2013 1:01 am

Hi,

I am planning to purchase a clown trigger. Any idea on how to care for this fish? Tank mate compatibility? Food? Etc.

Thanks.

its not really hard to take care of this kind of trigger.. well almost all regularly available triggers are easy.. they eat almost anything.. pellets, diy food, etc. they can be housed with tangs and angels but not smaller fishes.. however, they have this reputation of going bersek when they grow up and kill all their tankmates.. i know someone who kept them with lions for years, then all of a sudden, it killed the lions.. so be careful.. but this fish has a lot of personality.. its like a dog in an aquarium.. :)

one of best LS that i have ever cared. (look at my avatar :) ) had a unique personality. yup, just what like bro obet said, it's as if you had a dog inside a tank. will eat almost everything specially shrimp. just make sure to provide shells every once in a while or else it will have problems eating with its tooth uprooting out of its mouth. when that happens, i just use a nail clipper and cut it personally.

I feed mine with oyster (talaba) and mussels (tahong), any hard shells that his mouth can grab and play with. It will help file and chipped in its outgrowing tooth. I would advise you to have only one trigger since a single species could grow and reach up to more than a foot in length. For the cleaning crew, i just use LH and RH. Left Hand and Right Hand. hehe.. I've even tried before a longspine sea urchin only to find out the next morning that it picked all of its spikes one by one before eating the main course in the middle. hehe.. BTW, my clown trigger already killed two clownfish and cracked the glass divider of my FOWLR tank just by using it's head. Hard headed isn't it?!

I currently have 2 clownfish. Should i remove them? I think it already ate my cleaning shrimps because they are all missing.
