Share ko lang experience ko today regarding my tank.
I've uploaded the videos in youtube para mas madali niyo maview. You can type the title date as it is or use the url link.
1. Sunday July 18 PM or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgUsA-D93LM
All fishes ok. Water change the previous day, Saturday. Noticed a bit of egg rotting smell in the container mixed with the cough syrupy sweet smell. Fishes ok.
2. Saturday July 24 1253PM or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USWBjIZQ4bc
Ten minutes after water change, fishes start to get stressed. Noticed that they suddenly had difficulty in breathing. NSW in container had really bad egg rot smell.
3. Saturday July 24 113PM or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUbBCE_cMhU
20 minutes later, you can see the fishes dying or dead in the sand. The Algae Blenny at the last part of the clip was already gasping for breath as well as the clown wrasse and one of the yellow wrasses. Rotten egg smell reached 2nd floor of house.
I immediately tested the NSW parameters using API Marine kit:
Ph - 8.0
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20-30
Salinity 1.024 (Red Sea hydrometer)
Temp - 30 deg C
Unfortunately, at this point I had to bring my wife to the hospital for confinement.
4. Saturday July 24 5 PM or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzQ21rlDnGk
As you can see 4 hours later, some of the fishes survived - so maybe we can rule out a grounded wire issue.
So far, here are the casualties:
1 Yellow wrasse (juvenile; 1-1.5 inches)
2 African Clownfishes (1-1.5 inches)
10 Blue Green Chromises (1-1.5 inches)
2 cleaner Shrimps (juvenile 1.5-2inches)
Here are the survivors:
1 Scopas Tang (2-2.5 inches)
2 Yellow Wrasse (Juvenile 1.5-2 inches)
1 Algae Blenny (2-2.5 inches)
1 Clown wrasse (2-3 inches)
1 Carpet Anemone with hosted Porcelain Crab
Missing 2 Yellow Wrasses (2-3 inches) - they might have burrowed since yun ang habit nila.
Unfortunately, the only culprit I can point out is the NSW I purchased last July 11 around 230 PM at their Cartimar store. The corals as you can see are a bit stressed. I will observe and see what happens further and give an update. Very meticulous ako with regards to monitoring my system since every 3- 4 days ako nagmomonitor ng parameters ko.
In any case, I've talked to the owner about what happened, and the owner was very accommodating in assisting me with what happened. If upon investigation ang problem is yung NSW, then papalitan naman daw niya lahat ng livestock ko. Hope you guys understand na I won't disclose kung sino yung owner and shop, di naman niya kasalanan.
As of this writing, the corals are getting back to normal. Hope lumitaw na din yung missing wrasses...
