DIY: Make 50Hz/220VAC motors run under 60Hz/220VAC ***

A number of you might have purchased abroad certain wavemaker pump motor pumps such as Hydor Koralia, Tunze Wavemakers, and the like from countries such as Singapore or Hong Kong.

In most likelihood, it will run but not operate properly once you plug them into the local Philippines 220VAC / 60 Hz power mains.

The key dependency revolves around the need to make a 50Hz rated motor to run under 60Hz frequency.

Don't despair. There is a workable work-around.

A <-> B <-> C <-> D

where:

A = 220VAC/60Hz mains supply
[your local Meralco outlets]
B = 220VAC to 12VDC converter (3-5Amps)
[regulated is best; this usually costs anywhere from php 600 up]
C = 12VDC to 220VAC 50/60Hz inverter (150watts up rated)
[CDRKing sells them at Php 750]
D = 220VAC/50Hz motor load
[Tunze or Koralia's purchased from HK or Singapore or equivalent]

Ooooooh kind of confused pre...how do you know that the equipment isn't working properly?? i've had my skimmer from the states running for a while, the Tunze i bought i just plugged in a couple of months ago...I mean is there a noticeable difference?? Sound?? slow propeller?? is it breaking it by running 60hz?

And with the A<->B etc, do you pick from the A,B,C,D?? or do you have to mix, vice versa?? hehe sorry definitely confused

If it's a 110VAC / 60Hz device, then this will not help you. Better check with Edwin if there is a way to get spare parts for your Tunze locally through him.

for those who want to DYI even the frequency converter, here's a circuit for your reference:

PCB Inverter 100W by IC 4047 + 2N3055

This circuit Inverter input 12V (battery 12V)
to out 220V 50HZ, Eesy circuit because less component to use.
It use IC 4047 (oscillator 50HZ) and
Power Transistor 2N3055 x 2 ,OUTPUT Power 100W.

sir peter yung output niya is still 50 Hz, wala bang output ay 60Hz? this can be great para dun sa mga brownout times, pwede gumamit ng battery ng motor para na 12V para magpatakbo ng airpump or even a powerhead..
