i found this link on marshreef.com making yur ordinary powerhead into a needlewheel powered PH for increased bubble production on your skimmers by just using a bioball(lotsa o these bioballs are found in cartimar)

I wish they showed it in action though. His design looks good but I am not sure how duralble that "pinwheel" of his would be? If other factory pinwheels are prone to breaking, I would think that this would not be durable as well. Yes, bioballs are cheap enough and it would be easy to replace but it would surely irritate me enough to buy a pump with an actual needle wheel. Just an observation. Thanks for sharing.

i found another one that uses a more durable version it uses an abrasive called 3m proloc bristle brush. and it was doing good in the pics. i thinki saw it on reefcentral. try searching there.
