3W LED build - Paul's Reef

I'm planning to upgrade my 100g reef to a 180g in wall 72x24x24 at least a year from now when my new house is done.

For the meantime I will start doing the LED lights that I can use for my existing 100g tank and eventually will be used for the 180g.

Here's the list of materials that I have right now.

Image

6x Mean Well Dimmable Drivers PCD-60-700B good for 20 LEDs
65x 3W 14K White LED
65x 3W 450-455 nm Blue LED
6x 3w Red LED
130x 60 deg lense
6x 12x5 heat sink
6x 12V fans
2x Omni dimmers
1x 50ml heat sink compound

I need your thoughts on the following options.

LED configuration per module
1. 10 Blue, 10 White
2. 10 Blue, 9 White, 1 Red (no lense)

Image

Number of modules for a 180g tank
1. 4x 60W modules = 240W less powerful, spread of light is just right for a 72x24
2. 6x 60W modules = 360W more powerful, light falling out of the tank

I used 4 bolts and nuts to mount the fans to the aluminum heat sink

Mounted the LEDs using thermal glue

Thanks Seth.

Cost per module (60W) - approximately 4,500. Hindi ko pa alam kung 4 modules ang ilalagay ko or 6 for my 100g. Yung sobra ilalagay ko sa 50g ko kapag tapos na mag cycle sa Feb or March.

Mounted it with chains bought from True Value for P34/ft

Learnings for today:

1. 60deg lens will become 45deg because you need to mount it a bit higher from the LED board due to the soldered wires. So you need to do your design based on 45deg or mount the LEDs higher from the water.

2. It's better to use black sided lens instead of the transparent one to avoid light spilling out from the sides unless your tank is in-wall.

Final update:

The 4 drivers with 2 dimmers

4 modules for a 100g 72x18x18. I will just use my excess LEDS for my 50g

I suggest you use GU10 bulbs or E27 for 15 gallons. 3 watts LED maybe too strong for a 15 gallons
