Mas maganda Kung Meron UV para walang algae outbreak, disease at mas ok water quality.

im a new member here po but have been reading many articles regarding reef keeping...
sa totoo lang wla pa akong tanke hahaha...nagbabasa-basa lng ako to prepare for a reef tank next year!!! (supposedly this yr kaso nd natuloy pag-aaral ko sa manila, so nxt year na lng, hopefully)

regarding sa paglagay ng UV sa tanke, here are some of my says...
1st ano ba gamit ng UV? kill microorganisms that may pass through it good or bad...
2nd when you do proper aquarium care, everything goes into proper place...patience is a main recipe here...
2.1 do proper quarantine>>>wla namang disease sa tanke mo kung wala kang ilalagay...so why use UV?
2.2 feed less, more water change...algae outbreak means you are not taking care of your tank... but if you love algae, do some readings on algae scrubbers...they are great! well IMO...they reduce nutrients nitrates and phosphates in proper proportions...other methods will just remove nitrates leaving behind the P's that will stay in your rocks...you'l find yourself having an algae outbreak due to the P sink, THE ROCK(nd ung artista ha?)...mura pa hahaha..basta gawing mo ng maayos..but if you are not a good DIY'er and you have the money...bili ka na lng ng reactors...pero para akin wla parin tatalo sa ats that is well built, natural na mura pa^^...
3rd IMO no need to have UV, unless you have a problem(disease, algae)... dont introduce disease via quarantine...prevent algae outbreak via proper husbandry...
4th UV does not choose which to kill...you dont want the good bacteria from the cycling to be dead...also some critters such as copepods(a good snack for fishes) if you are lucky enough to have them in your tank...

pasensya napahaba haha...just want to share what's in my head to help you start on the right track and stay on the hobby^^...

I am using a uv, but not always running. pganahin ko kung kalian ko mgustuhan.

I think uv is not needed, but is nice to have.

lahat naman ng new tank dadaan talaga sa series of algae, may uv o wala.
diatoms, cyano, hair algae, coralline. kasama sa cycle ng tank hangang magmature
