Hi, im alex, 26 from Provident Vill, Marikina. just newly discovered this forum.

I created a 20gal fowlr last sept06, inisa isa ko po bilihin yung mga materials hanggang mabuo ko, last ko binili yung tank, stand rocks, sand and (blue pack Marine Mix Instant Saltwater) saltmix. Sabi nila sa cartimar ok lang daw 4 hours yung saltmix in tap water, pede na lagyan ng fish.. so i thought ok lang, dream ko talaga magkasaltwater, may freshwater na kasi ako and betta tank. Again i created last Sept06 and kinabukasan nilagyan ko na nag fish pero from that day till this day isa isang namamatay ang fish sa loob . I dunno what to do, birthday gift ko sana to sa sarili ko this coming Nov15, plan ko sana by that day po maging reef tank na sya... please help po, tell me what to do, i dunno if its something about marine ich kasi may na notice ako sa coral beauty ko or about sa water itself or iba.. please help po. thanks and more power reefphilippines.. I'm not an expert and just a newbie as well but I think you failed to cycle your tank first. A tank should be cycled about 1-2 months or more than that depending on the stability of your parameters (you will be needing a test kit for this also what did you use to check the salinity of your water when you used the saltmix? It is also advisable to use RODI water rather than tapwater. The bluebag (saltmis from carti) is also an inferior saltmix although I haven't tried it myself.

There are a lot of more knowledgable people here that can help you, alao try to read some threads here that might be useful for you.

One thing that I have learned in my short time in this hobby is you need a lot of PATIENCE and also your willingness to learn it the right way. This hobby needs a lot of time and money =>

Hang on there. You are on the right forum. Trust me you need to learn a lot ( I am still learning everyday)!!

And as they usually say in this hobby, patience is key

Simple advice:

1. If planning to do reef, hindi mo kakayanin makabuhay ng corals sa "Blue Bag saltmix" ng cartimar. I think fish can pero pag corals wala talagang pag asa.
2. Cycle your tank first gaya ng sinabi ni Zen Keeper. Without cycling, almost everything na ilalagay mo will die from 1st day until 2 months. Based from my experience, pag walang cycling pinakaitatagal ng isda mo is 2 months at mamamatay na lang without any reason.
3. Test kits very important when cycling. Hindi mo malalaman kung tapos na tank mo mag cycling kung wala kang pang test.

Hi alex, sad to say isa ka nanaman sa mga nabiktima ng carti salestalk. Well charge it to experience na lang and learn from that mistake.
1st cycle your tank properly and use nsw muna sa cycling stage mo para di sayang saltmix. Cycling for 2mos.is good and safe. Eto ang reason kung bakit isa isang namamatay isda mo.

2nd buy the necessary things you'll be needing like
Test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate
Hydrometer for salinty measurement

3rd patience lot's of it and read read read for you to learn more

4th blue bag saltmix from carti is mediocre one. Better to use instant ocean or blue treasure since fowlr ka lang

5th since 20g ka lang research muna anong fish trip mo and pwede for a 20g tank but at most max ka sa 6pcs and small fishes lang pwede dyan.

6th unahin mo muna and sanayin sarili mo sa fowlr before ka mag reef coz mas mariming issues sa pag rireef imo.

7th read muna sa newbie section and other sub boards
Marami kang matutuhan dun along the way. HTH

Tamang tama if magrestart ka ngayon it will be just in time pag birthday mo cycled na tank mo

Oops forgot to mention using tap water is a big NO NO!
Better buy sa mga water station like they say.

thanks very much sirs... and dun sa ngtip sakin thru phone call.. noted po lahat ng sinabi nyo po..i guest i have to restart.. but may prob po, may mga fishes na po ako na still alive.. 2 firefish and 1 mandarin from first purchase ko sila ang natira and 1 pearl scale, spotted cardinal, domino, blue damsel,2 coral beauty na yung isa pansin ko ngkaich pero medyo lumiit from the day na una ko syang napansin i dunno kung panu mukhang nacure and another butterfly and damsel na both color yellow from my 2nd purchase naman, Lahat po maliliit maliban sa coral beauty and pearl scale na medyo medium sized. mukhang na goyong nga ako sa sales talk nila and excitement na magka saltwater tank.. may 2 resolutions na aq pero pa confirm kung ok po ba ito..

1. its either bibili po ako ng saltwater kay fevmarine for my small tank here to move my live fishes and drain my 20gal tank and buy saltwater for it..

2. or ill buy saltwater for my small tank to move my live fishes, drain my 20gal tank and bumili ng purified water sa water station sa village and use a blue treasure saltmix and cycle.

with this may questions lang ako..
1. how long (specific) ung fishes ko sa small tank ko before i transfer back sa 20gal (saltwater purchase or purified with saltmix)?
2. about marine ich, im thinking to use hydrosalinity (tama ba yung term?), mas effective ba yun? di ko ma kuha panu step by step gngwa yun..?

mas prefer ko sana bumili nalang ng saltwater kay fev..bfore i was thinking sa cartimar kaso tatagain ako sa metro ng taxi atleast kay fev medyo malapit lang dto sa marikina.

sa pag cycle pwede naman natural saltwater or using saltmix tapos lagyan mo lng isang hipon at hayaan mo lng mga bacteria na mag complete sa stage cycle nila, malalaman mo cycled ka na pag ok na reading sa teskits mo at dun ka na pwede mag lagay ng isda kaso wag isang bagsakan ng dami para di mabigla ang bio load mas ok per week ang dagdag at since 20gal sya limited to 6 pcs small fish as advice by potring , mas ok siguro if mag kabudget ka narin sa sump para maluwag lagay sa filtration at more water volume.

sa hypo naman dapat ma maintain mo 1.010 salinity para mamatay ang ich usually 60 days ang monitoring advice others use copper pero baka may mag bigay pa enlightenment dito kasi di ako expert sa hypo haha. if possible iwas narin pag bili ng LS sa carti kasi halos lahat ng sakit andun na pag di ka familiar sa shops, much better kung sa mga sponsor natin dito or gacha mas malaki chance healthy ang LS na benta nila.

Seriously meron naman malalapit sayo..baka pwede nila iadopt muna fishes mo until makacycle ka.

ganito bro alex since parang ayaw mo ipaadopt muna mga fishda mo, buy a 30g tank then icycle mo 30g mo muna while mga fishes mo ehh nasa 20g now you can use a ohf filtration na fiber wool na white na nabibili sa petshop yun muna gamitin mo as to filter the poop of your fishes sa 20g mo. and palagay ko much better change to nsw muna sa 20g mo and alisin mo lahat ng laman just clean nsw and ohf and airpump. tapos linisin mo maige sand,rocks mo. then ilagay mo sa 30g lahat and have it cycled properly .pag oks na 30g mo itransfer mo na fishes unti unti as di mabigla system mo. still the same ohf pa din gamitin mo as filtration for now habang yung 20g mo gawin mong sump as filtration mo na. ohf will cost you 300.00 and 30garound 650 to 700 i think.
