Skimmerless/Sumpless FOWLR 20 gallon.

Hello! Magstart sana ako ng Sumpless/Skimmerless 20 gallon SW tank kasi ayaw ipamigay ng relatives ko yung isda nila pag nag lipat ng bahay. Eto yung kwento (Mahaba siya XD)

Nakagawa na ako ng madaming research for a sumpless/skimmerless tank kasi yung family ko sa province lilipat ng bahay at gusto nila ipamigay yung mga fish nila, at ayaw ng family ko dito na bumili ng other equipment kasi tight sa budget. Ang isda ay 1 clownfish, 1 Coral Beauty Angelfish at 2 yellowtail damselfish (lahat galing sa cartimart) na nakatira sa isang 10 gallon na sumpless/skimmerless rin (FOWLR din yung tank kasi yung aquarium nila yung para yung mga aquarium na may kasamang light at powerhead/filters). 6 months old na yung mga isda sa kanila.

Yung 20 gallon tank ko ay growout tank ng freshwater fish ko at nilinis ko na siya (rinse lang) at ready na for set-up. Lilipat yung mga relatives ko next week so di matagal ang panahon para magcycle ng matino at ayokong gumamit ng isda kasi nga may damsel na ako. Pwede kaya ako bumili ng cycled saltwater sa cartimart (Or kung may alam kayo na ibang maganda na marine shop).

After siguro nun at nakabili na ako ng Live rock na mag cover ng kalahati ng tank (Kasi nga Sumpless/Skimmerless siya) at balak ko gumawa ng 10% water change everyday. (KAsi masyadong maluwag schedule ko).

Not sure kung tama ginagawa ko. Kailangan ko rin po ng help kasi gusto ko din masubukan yung SW (after 15 years of FW).

Also pwede bang bare bottom tank ko para mas madali magtangal ng debris at gumamit ng plastic na coral (Kasi nga may angelfish). Salamat po!

yung bacteria kasi for the nitrogen cycle ay kumakapit sa glass and rocks.. dun sila, kaya kahit lagay mo ng water from a mature tank, konteng bacteria lang malalagay mo.. use cycled rocks kung pwede. or gamitin mo yung rocks na galing sa tank nila..

IMO, you don't need to add half of your tank with rocks dahil 20g lang yung tank and you need more water than more rocks. changing 10% water everyday is too much. i think 10% weekly is the best at affordable for small tanks. Naisip ko lang, if hindi pa cycled tank mo and you're planning to do 10% WC everyday, paano mo matatapos cycling process? hehehe that is just my opinion.

Actually sa size ng tank mo at sa dami ng fish mo medyo mahirap na rin magdagdag ng ibang isda dahil sa aggressive behavior. Usually mas maliit ang tank, mas salbahe ang mga isda. Pero kung wrasse at gobies hindi naman gagalawin ng damsels o ng pygmy angels.

Alright thank you! One last question, what is the difference in maintenance pag FO at FOWLR kapag walang skimmer/sump aside from increased water changes?

No difference at all, at parang comparing apples to oranges iyan bro kasi hindi lang skimmer ang tanging filtration method natin. Although a tank with a skimmer will be more stable as compared to a similar setup without a skimmer.

Aside from good gas exchange and consistent pH, pati redox potential at alkalinity ng tank na may skimmer ay mas maganda ang readings (dahil nga sa gas exchange and removal of dissolved organics/waste materials)

So in other words, same maintenance pero mas "malinis" ang tubig ng may skimmer.
