yep, the underwater portable camera of Olympus is quite good... a family friend has one and they had pictures taken in a fresh water pool... i am going to borrow it and use in my salt water tank soon...

for now, my slim compact is a Sony T50 (my daughter's now) and T100... I used to have the T1. I think they have the T200 on sale and now selling soon the T300 with face and smile detection...

I think the features are okay... however, I know that Sony has an equivalent model. Even Olympus has the underwater capable slim type cam.

Better check further and compare notes.

Hi Fisher!

You are looking for a point and shoot that's comparable to a DSLR? Medyo mahirap requirements mo yata.

Where will you use the camera? For quality, a point and shoot will always be inferior when you compare it to a DSLR. However, for convenience, a DSLR will always be inferior compared to a point and shoot.

I'm a DSLR guy and I don't mind the bulk ... although a nice pocket point and shoot really comes in handy.

If you will consider a DSLR like what Randell suggested, Nikon is on top... in the Philippines there is a big following for Canon it seems... so it will be easier to get pre-owned units and lens kit.

On the other hand, I still decided to stick with my Olympus loyalty... so I got there E-Volt 510 DSLR with two lens kit.

However, there are top models of the pocket series cameras that with the right manual setting you can get very good pics even macros... of course not as relatively perfect with a DSLR but technology is bridging the gap too fast, it seems...

I'd suggest, get those brands that are specializing on cameras. Sony is one of the best brand around but they are the masters of Audo/visual like Televisions, LCDs and CD players.

Try Nikon Coolpix P6000, P90 or also try to check the L-series. Do not base on the functionality, leave that to camera geeks. Instead, look for the performance http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Digital-Camera/index.page# .. hahaha parang commercial!
