Has anyone done this? Please share how you did it. We are just on the onset of the typhoon season and we must exort all possible remedy if there is another series of long power interruption.

Thanka in advance!

you will be needing pure sine power inverter for you to be able to connect your dc pump to your car battery.

Kaya I connect yan sa 24v car battery. Kaya lang dapat may knowledge sa electronics kasi may controller ang dc pump jebao.

may nabibili yata sa cdr king na 12v input tapos selectable yung output voltage. yun din yata ginagamit kapag pinapababa or pinapahina wave nung jebao

OT - can just plug in 12v dc SLA battery sa controller ng Ecotech MP series right pag walang kuryente? Or 6v sya?

You have 3 options:

#1 Look for a 12V DC to 24V DC step up transformer. This is not very common.

#2 Use an inverter to convert 12V DC to 220V AC. Did this during the first day of brownout. Start the engine for 20 mins so that the car battery will charge. 1 hr engine off. Good for short period of time. Nakakapagod mag on off ng engine.

#3 Buy an inverter type generator that can simulate purest sine wave. Got mine for 18k 2000W. Sama mo na ilaw, electric fan, personal ref, pati chiller mo kaya na. Meron 1000W version available yata at 10k.

Uhh the PSU of the jebao is a generic 24v PSU which is similar to a laptop PSU.

220v power converted to 24v by the PSU>controller>pump

If that is the case, you can just rig it directly to a 24v battery or 2x12v batteries connected in series, given if you have the same connector like the one you are currently using.

Marty

Other info on the pump (and alternative backup power solutions) can be found here

BTW, a lot of people are just using 12v batteries. I guess the pump (and even the wm) will work on 12v.

:P

you can connect the pump to a 12V battery directly. It will run, but not at full power (kaya may option yung jebao wp-40/25 dati na variable output converters to control speed). but Im not sure if it will run at all (baka may minimum voltage na kailangan na higher than 12V). It depends on the pump. To be safe, use the rated voltage dun sa power supply niya. (Its always indicated sa power supply). DC pumps need DC voltage to run, batteries have DC voltages, all you need is to connect it to a battery with the same rated voltage of the pump. The power supplies of the DC pumps change the meralco 220V AC to 12/24V DC.

Also you do not need a pure sine wave inverter. you need a quasi resonant inverter (atleast) if you are going to directly plug an AC pump into an inverter. yung CDRking na 500W inverter ginamit ko. super expensive ng pure sine wave. If you have a power supply for your DC pump, you dont even need a quasi resonant inverter. kahit inverter lang pwede na yun. Problems with using batteries are:
1. batteries are expensive. especially if your going to buy bigger capacity for longer usage.
2. you need to recharge them.
3. cheapest batteries are lead acid batteries which are very bulky and heavy.

For me, I'd buy a generator instead. The cheapest generators are ok to use. Problem is they break down easily. If you want to learn mechanical and electrical engineering, ok lang yun cheap generators. hehehehe!

Advantages with generators are:
1. Storage space is small compared to batteries.
2. You can plug your cellphone chargers and electric fans as well as you pumps.
3. Higher capacity.
4. Longer running time. you can run a generator for a week or more. (siyempre may pahinga in between) unlike sa battery pag ubos na yung charge, wala na.
5. cheaper to run. 1L of gas can give you power for a few hours.
6. Never runs out of fuel during a crisis. Pag battery operated air pump, pag may bagyo, ubusan agad batteries sa mga supermarket. samatalang sa gas station walang katao tao..
7. you however need to maintain your generator, run it a few minutes each month. if you dont, it might not start when you need it.

Hope this helps.

Sorry OT.

@obet
Pero how do you prep a generator for long term storage? Hassle kasi pag monthly mo papaandarin, minsan nakakalimutan na din.

2x na nangyari sa akin kung kelan kailangan ko saka ayaw umandar, either need linisin yun carburetor or palitin yun spark plug or naisra yun capacitor.

Recently ganito ginawa ko for long term storage:
1. Drain the fuel in the tank of the generator
2. Run the generator until the gasoline in the fuel lines and carburetor is exhausted
3. Un-plug the spark plug
4. Advise din sakin nung nag repair to follow the 50:1 gas:2t mixture
5. Also read, not to use old fuel as it could gel up and ruined your carburetor

Binased ko lang dito sa video na to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fad6_d39JCg

Question is:
1. Should I also pour oil (2T) dun sa slot ng spark plug and crank the engine as show in 1:16 of the video?
2. Kailangan ba talaga nun fuel stabilizer for storing the generator long term, eh idradrain mo na nga ng todo yun gas sa tank, fuel lines at carburetor?

sa video kasi 4 stroke yun engine, unlike the 900w portable generator which is 2 stroke only.

Please advise if may other tips pa for storing a generator long term.

@immortalbreaker
That's a very good question na sana may makasagot. Electronics ako, hindi ME so d ko masyado kabisado.. hehehe! hopefully may makasagot sa mga ibang reefers. Thanks for the link, buksan ko paguwi ko.. The first thing I do after a storm is to go to a repair shop.. hahahha! kaso pag mga small time repair shop, bara bara lang.. basta umandar lang, tapos pag uwi, saglit lang sira ulit.. so baka ako na mag debug nung sa amin.. reasearch research na lang.. gumagamit ako ng 2T inuuna ko yun, bago gas.. pag ayaw umandar, check the spark plug kung may spark.. the easiest and most common na sira..

Is it possible to use a UPS for this? Instead of letting the battery power go back and inverted to 220V, can the 12VDC be directly wired out?

If it is possible, how should it be wired?

A UPS consists of a battery, inverter and battery charger. It just have the electronics to immediately trigger the inverter supply as soon as the meralco supply is out.

It is possible to wire the pump directly to the battery but the power of the pump is limited and it all depends on the pump if it can run on 12V (I am talking about DC pumps). Best look at the rating of the power supply of the DC pump and use a battery or group of batteries to give the same voltage. For AC pumps, you need an inverter for them to run.

PS. Remeber DC voltage has polarity so make sure your connections are correct.
