I'm looking to order a protein skimmer overseas but the pump is rated at 220v 50hz which is standard for china/hk. Question is will i have any problems running it here as i think our supply in phl is 220v 60hz? If it doesn't work is there a work-around such as transformer or avr? TIA for taking time to respond.

Quite a hassle to do, but may be worth your while especially when purchasing a hard to find pump... or an expensive one.

Thanks seth for this. Yeah was think of buying from fish-street but given the complications might be better to sort locally. May end up costing slightly more but a lot less hassle.

Yup, the tax is a definite killer. It may even be cheaper to buy here. Anyway, I have been contemplating on buying from fish-street as well (either a BM curve 5 or a Coral Box DC Skimmer) but the shipping cost plus taxes were off-putting.

Was looking at the bm curve 7 or 180. I have transacted with fishstreet before. Tax was ok and items came in fine. My only complaint was it took longer for me to receive my package compared to let's say ordering from aquacave. Anyway may just source this locally as you're right customs is a bit unpredictable nowadays.
