Deep sand bed lighting?

Required po ba ang lights sa DSB? If yes, what kind of lighting?

DSBs should NOT have any lights at all as denitrfying bacteria (and even nitrifying bacteria) are photosensitive. Put the light on macroalgae or ATS instead.

anyway back to the topic, the environment of denitrifying bacteria is in the anoxic regions of sand and rocks, both regions are typically absent of light.

on a more practical discussion, if you would put light on the sandbed, photosensitive species of bacteria will just move far away from the exposed areas and other species like cyanobacteria (and other life forms like diatoms and other filamentous algae) will grow there instead.

I think kung sensitive man sa lights ang nitrifying bacteria ay yun surface layer lang ang maaapektuhan. Since light will not penetrate the inner layers of DSB, bacterias in the inner layer wont be affected.

Di mo na siguro dapat masyado problemahin since most do not rely naman on DSB as their sole filtration.
