if you have a lot of hard corals, you'll need to supplement calcium and KH.. just check your Ca and KH using test kits.. add two parts solution kung kulang.. it will help your corals grow faster..

@bro obet - i notice some of my corals are shrinking (hammer and frogspawn) could this be one of the reason - low calcium? di pa kasi ako nagstart ng two part soln. just tested calcium and its at 360.

shrinking? yung polyps niya lumiliit? kasi calcium help you corals grow (yung skeleton niya) parang gatas sa atin nung bata.. it helps us grow but its not our main source of nutrition.. i dont think that low calcium would cause a coral's polyp to shrink.. maybe malakas yung flow masyado?

Kung mahirap kumuha niyan sa lugar niyo, baka sa grocery or department store diyan mayroon. Magnesium sulfate is also called Epsom Salt. For alkalinity, puede yung baking powder or yung antacid sa drug store - parehong sodium bicarbonate yan. Calcium chloride naman is yung desicant/dehumidifier na nakalagay sa plastic container na may pangsalo ng tubig sa ilalim. Marami nyan sa ACE, etc. Konti lang naman ang dosing so okay na kahit a little pricier. HTH.

just keep in mind you have to be sure its "food grade" just to be safe

The epsom salt from S&R says Magnesium sulfate USP on the package. Baking powder is definitely food grade. Calcium chloride used as desicant, I'm not sure. Is there a chemist here in the forum?

After a quick surf, calcium chloride used as dessicant is about 94% cacl2 and the rest is a binder. The binder is non-toxic and food grade, if not it will react with cacl2 and will destroy its properties, among others, as a dessicant The one used in Reefvideos.com, Dowflakes, is only 80% cacl2 and 20% binder. With the looks of it, it should be okay. Only thing left is to try it. But for peace of mind, I'd get this one from Alysson!

Ive been using this DIY 2-part for a couple of months now. So far no problems. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.
