get macroalgae. isipin mo, micro and macro algaes are both plants. they need the same things to survive. macroalgae has the advantage in size. so if they are heathy and growing, you deprive micro of nutrients. ubos pa nitrates mo kasi kakainin ng macro (instead of micro). "overlighting" lang yan kung ma-burn mo yung corals. thats like a 400w MH on a nano.

phosphate and silicates? use NSW and top off with RO/Di.

yes, kung luma ilaw, yun pa pwede maghtrigger ng algae growth. but the advice not to use good lighting, malabo yun.

i do understand the fact that old lights tend to give off spectrums suitable for plant growth (kasi yung blue dati, nagiging dilaw na.) pero kaya nagkaka-bloom dahil na rin sa mga compounds tulad ng nitrogenous wastes, phosphates at silicates. (an aquarist can experience algal blooms in his tank with phosphates as low as 1 - 10 ppb <parts per billion> regardless of light intensity)

btw, i've read that cyanobacteria can process phosphates more quickly than algae.

tama ka, yung pag-lilink ng intense lighting with algal blooms is nothing but an old wive's tale.

meron ding claims na combination ito ng algae at bacteria. (sa freshwater tumutubo ang cyano kahit pa undetectable ang nitrates, ilaw ang gamit nya)
