Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has tried putting Cheato in their tanks when they begin cycling? I've read some people post on other sites that this works for them, and shortens the cycling period too. I would love to hear the opinion of our more experienced fellow reefers regarding this matter.

No need to add cheato during cycling. Cheato should be added only during the last few days of cycling. This is because you want to build the number of bacteria in your sand and LR's during cycling and adding cheato while your bacterial base is still building will defeat the purpose of cycling as it will remove the nutrients necessary for bacteria to grow.

Oh ok. I was kind of thinking it might help speed up the cycling. Plus it will prevent the excessive algae bloom by starving it out.

Cycling takes time. Rushing it will just cause problems for you in the future. Remember...only bad things happen fast in this hobby.
