Re: coral ID

Postby christian » Wed Aug 30, 2006 3:06 pm

[quote="philaquarist"]Hi Christian,

your query about your coral ID got my juices going. So whether you like it or not, here are some more bits of info (useful or otherwise)...

Image
The coral skeleton above IMHO is that of a Galaxea (another beginner's SPS). You also had another picture (the last one?) of a similar morphology. IME please do not throw those skeletons away. They may be alive. Keep them under strong lighting. Galaxea skeletons have a creepy habit of regenerating their polyps after several weeks/months of appearing to be dead! Once it starts regrowing, there is no stopping it. This is relatively easy coral to maintain. So if you have the tank space, what do you have to lose?

sir i moved the galexea to a higher position of my tank to receive good intense lighting... is it ok for it to receive high flow? kasi medyo malakas flow rate ng aquarium ko... so is it ok if yun tentacles nya ay back and forth but it looks like mas mahaba yun mga tentacles nya ngaun... thanks to you... :)

OT na. if its a crinoid or a feather star, buti kamo di mo binili. its impossible to keep in an aquarium. impossible in the strongest possible terms. be glad, di ikaw yung nauto ;)

mga sir...

Postby christian » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:28 am

mga sir... thank GOD na di nag crush system ko last night... i was awake till 3am this morning... grabe... base on what i learned the other night i need to put 4 inches and above sand to make my fuge dsb... hehehe... akala ko kasi before one inch na may LR all over the fuge is dsb na... hehehe... but with my one inch dsb setup 0 lahat ng parameters ko... wla lang nga corepods... so i decided to change my setup and add more sand and take away my LR.... i add another 5 inches of boracay sand sa system... but after adding 5 inches of sand... didnt notice that may mali pala sa sump ko... yun buffles ay may mali... unang baffles ko kasi ay di sagad sa flooring ng aquarium ko... so ang dating ang water pala na sa sump ko ay dadaan muna sa one inch na sand ko pero ngaun dahil 6 inches na sya ang nangyari ay nauubusan ng tubig ang return chamber ko... so ang ginawa ko ay tinanggal lahat ulit ng sand na nilagay ko (thanks to peter who recommends doing it, thanks din kay j_chu for moral support)... after taking out the 5 inches of sand super blurd ng water ko... i tot malalason na mga isda ko or mga acropora ko... thank GOD buhay pa naman lahat ng mga isda ko at ibang livestock... nag laway lang yun montipora ko last night ng konti... but ok na ulit.... clams are doing a ok... my question is ano dapat ko gawin for now? should i just leave it that way na one inch sand lang sa fuge ko... sa fuge ko may 16 na mangrove na nakatanim... ang nangyari ata sa system ko ay parang drip style ng mangrove kasi lahat ng water dadaan sa sand ko... so i think the mangrove (yun first 6 kong batch na mangrove) is working... kasi zero nitrates sya and phosphate kahit anong pakain ko before... maybe im planning to add another fuge na lang... my question lang is paano ko dadalhin ang water sa fuge ko? hehehe.... sorry medyo mahaba....

waaaaahhhhhh... sana di mag crush system ko... hahaha...

thanks guys for reading my long story... :)
