tank: 20 gallons LWH 24"x12"x16"
water volume: 15gallons (rocks and sand took up 5gals)
rocks: 11kg
sand: 5kg
light: DIY LED 21x3w 430nm + 4x3w whites from sir jancorwin12
skimmer: resun sk300
wavemaker: sunsun jvp 110
cooling: DIY fans 2x 80mm 12v .4a fans + 5-12v 1.2a AC/DC adapter (keeps my temps 2-4c lower than my freshwater tank beside it)
refugium: DIY glass box (1 gal water volume) for chaeto

tank history
june 20: cured rocks
june 26: added rocks / sand to new 20gal tank. start of cycling
june 28: added chaeto (nasa butas butas na plastic container lang sa loob ng DT)
july 9: diatoms started appearing. ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrates = near 0
july 12: added 2 false percs + clarkii clown + pistol shrimp + watchman goby + a zoa + 2x turbo snails + 5x nassarius + more chaeto / caulerpa + 3x feather duster (LS came from gatchalian exporters)

disadvantage ng walang sump, makalat sa nano ko. cabinet yung pinagpapatungan nya kaso may horizontal divider sa loob kaya di kasya sump, di ko alam kung posible ko sya macut ng hindi na ireremove ung 20gal


chaeto in my DIY fuge (na nakaipit sa likod ng tank / pader at nakapatong sa makakapal na styro)

mahaba habang planning muna ako sir para sa 75gal or 100gal pag madami na ako nadalaw na tanks hehe.

hi, am a newbie again. i had a tank before but i bought the tank with the water and corals and fish with an eheim canister that was existing for 2 yrs. I handled it another 2 yrs and the glass broke one night and all was gone.. after 7 yrs.. i want to start a tank again.. this time from scratch...

may i ask how to start a reef? I just bought a tank 75 gal... havent bought any other equip yet.. can you help me how to go about? what equipment is needed? can i check your setup ? is it advisable to use canister to filter? and put small pumps inside the tank to flow the water? or a sump using a separate tank is better? i have limited space in the sala...

It would be better if you create your own thread in the newbie section if you need dedicated help.
many experienced reefers here will help you. I am just a newbie (2 months in this hobby) so other members may be of greater help.

but to answer your question
- most of my research do not recommend canister filters for reef, using an appropriate amount of live rock for your tank size would be better.

- yes you could use pumps/powerheads/wavemakers inside your tank to generate waterflow and prevent detritus buildup

- the only thing i can advice for now is to read more here in RP or in other forums before you start purchasing anything (aside from your tank) and especially do not start a tank and add any fishes or any livestock if your tank is not yet cycled.
