CarloV's 75 Gallon Rimless Tank Build (Updated 06/15)

Postby CarloV » Tue May 03, 2011 10:07 am

Hi everyone, I've been a lurker in this forum for a number of years now, and I know a few members already. I've known jerickson81 since we were in high school, and si mrvicz naman ilang years na rin kami magkakilala even before we started reading on RP.

So some background lang muna, I've had a 90 gallon FOWLR since 2007. It was doing well for the first few years pero napabayaan ko lang because I was way too busy with work and family. Dumating na sa point na I was thinking of selling the tank na pero natuwa ako sa pictures ng build ni mrvicz and nung nakita ko yung tank ni jerickson, so I decided na balik na lang ako sa hobby. :D

Jerickson helped me out in upgrading the tank until it was reef-ready, and other members gave me tips as well. Here's my current setup:

Tank Size: 60" x 18" x 20" - rounded corner
Sump Size: 30" x 12" x 18" - 3 chambers
Water Volume (w/Sump) - 110 gallons
Return Pump: Rio HF14
Wavemakers: 2x Resun Wavemaker 15000A + 2x Seio 1100 Superflow
Lighting: Maxspect G2-170 + Maxspect G2-110
Skimmer: Reef Octopus NWB-150
Others: DIY Auto Top Off, UV Sterilizer.

Here are some pictures of my 90 gallon tank, most of my livestock are from grahf11 and Ritchie, and Jerickson...

And all my fish are in a separate hospital tank right now due to an ich outbreak some weeks ago

So now.. I had decided to have a 75 gallon rimless tank built by Mang Ramon - 1/2" na super clear glass. Bumili ako nung typical metal stand na nabibili sa mga LFS, then nagpagawa ako ng simpleng cabinet around it. Pinalagyan ko din ng metal braces sa likod para pwede ko i-hang yung lighting system ko on top of the tank.

Originally, I had planned to create a brand new tank since gusto ko magkaroon sana ng rimless naman kasi parang ang linis tingnan. And since yung current setup ko now nasa garage, gusto ko naman sana magkaroon sa sala ko naman para pwede ko tingnan yung tank ko sa gabi na hindi ako pinapapak ng lamok sa labas.

That was the plan originally, pero I decided na ililipat ko na lang lahat ng nasa 90 gallon ko to my new 75 gallon. :P )

Anyway, I'll be posting updates on the new tank's progress. Sana di magkaroon ng problema, and sana you guys can help me if ever man magkaroon. :D

Here are some pictures of the new 75 gallon rimless + 50 gallon sump by Mang Ramon:

Or iwanan ko na lang na see-through para pwede rin makita from the other side of the stairs? Kaya lang sobrang litaw yung overflow box and pipings nun. What do you guys think?

A few updates lang.

May remedy pa ba yung drip marks?

Works great. Nakaka-frustrate.

Anyway, here are some pics:

Nakakatuwa, mas malakas pa yung ilaw ng tank as compared to yung mga flourescent ng sala, kitchen, dining, at chandelier combined hehe.

Sorry late reply. Medyo naging busy. Tapos na ang pag-move sa new tank.

I repainted the whole background. Tinanggal ko using thinner and cutter, pareho ng sabi ni Sea Turtle. Then dinahan-dahan ko na pag-paint, 1 hour between layers. It took me about 5 layers and 5 cans of glossy black spray paint hehe. Then I left it overnight to dry, pero mas magandang di hamak kinalabasan. :D

Image

Then I did a leak test at nilagay ko yung DIY Auto Top Off ko. Float Switch from Ace Hardware + small pump.
Image
Image

So today, with the help of Jason (our aquarium maintenance guy) + Erick, nilipat na namin lahat ng rocks, water, at livestock sa new tank.

Sinimulan namin with the new substrate.
Image

Eto si Jason, fixing the rockscape. Medyo mnimimalistic yung mas gusto ko now. Para mas tahimik tingnan. Mas bagay sa rimless.
Image

Image

Wait lang, pause muna. Pakainin ko lang anak ko. Maya ulit. :D
