Great SPS corals in a small tank

Just wanted to share with all Sps corals keepers on how a small tank could have color Sps corals with low tech equipments.

Holy cow, nice colours on those Acroporas and styloporas. Coralline algae everywhere, inspite of all the acros. And this is low tech? Cool.

Hi Mr Fugu,

Erm i think it would be consider low tech as the reefer is not even using any calcium reactor or expensive skimmers. He is just using an venturi Weipro 2011 skimmer.
He is also just dosing additives like calcium and bicarbonate.


Sump : 0 baffle, plain 2’ tank, red pail acts as collection chamber for skimmer
Skimmer : Venturi type Weipro 2011, driven by an Eheim 1250, 28W, 1200 l/hr
Lighting : One 250W BLV 10000k MH, 6 hrs,
2 * 39W Aquaz BluePro(since Nov ‘05), 12 hrs and
2 * ATI AquaBlue Special (since May ‘06), 12 hrs
Chiller : Resun CL450
Return : Aquabee 2000/I, 38W, 2000 l/hr
Wave : Controllable streams Tunze TS24.
Additives : CaCl2 and NaCO3 are dosed for the maintenance of the corals growth.

I have a low tech tank myself, nothing to be ashamed of. What good are skimmers and reactors of every kind if the person has not done their homework and research. I do have a good skimmer but I rely on regular water changes instead. And I do not have a calcium reactor, I doze kalkwasser and turbo calcium chloride.

rarely. but sometimes these are delivered in Cartimar.

if you are lucky enough you will find good specimens of this kind in Cartimar
