The plan:

1. Can light an SPS dominated 96x30x30 tank.
2. The LEDs must be divided into modules that can be used in smaller tanks and for easier maintenance and repairs.
3. Composed of 2 channels dimmable by 0-10V signal.
4. Bigger heatsinks for better heat management.

The layout:

The protoype: I need 6 of this

I will use digital thermometer to monitor the temperature of the leds. Digital ameter to check what current is running on the leds.

If you really want to get the most out of your lights, then use ledil reflectors rather than acrylic optics. The upgrade I will be doing are not technically multichips but Luxeon Ms (the same LED that ATI sirius X fixture is currently using).

As per experience as well, mas sharp ang shadowing sa 3w kumpara sa multichip ko dati due to the nature of their optics.
Isa pang di ko naman nagustuhan sa 3w optics maninilaw sila in time, at sa case ng violets may tendency na masunog.

For 3w LEDs, the best advice I could give is use Luxeon ES royal blues over Epileds. Sobrang layo ng mw output, while using the same if not less watts. If you can manage to get ES neutral whites, cyan and cool blue, that would be great as well. Yung Samsung neutral white panalo rin, kasi mataas ang CRI.
Cheers,
Marty

As of now my main decision point in choosing 3w epileds is the cost. Medyo limited budget for a big tank. It's around 1/3 of the cost of a branded fixture. Anything more than half the cost of branded baka mag Hydra52 na lang ako. Considering the risk of error in LEDs DIY. The last DIY that I did using meanwell drivers flickers when you separate the blues from whites. Kapag sabay okay naman. Medyo may risk talaga na may masayang na parts sa DIY kaya dapat talaga yung sure ka na sa combination ng parts

Luxeon ES is generally inexpensive, sulit din talaga lalo sa long term. Have you seen the coralux board yet, pati yung MW LDD drivers? Ang ganda hehe for sure magugustuhan mo yun lalo madaming pwedeng gawin hehe.

Good choice lalo yang Hydra52. :D

Marty

Hehehe. Kaya lang out of budget talaga. Sa 360g baka kailangan ko 4 units. Mga 150k na yun. Yung DIY ko ngayon more or less 50k lang aabutin

Again, just trying to apply the principles of photography, a more diffused or spread out light source will show the true colors of the subject.

Image

The second picture uses a direct flash while the first picture used the ceiling and the walls to diffuse the light to have a bigger light source.

Now, let's apply this principle on reef lighting. Spreading the leds will result to more diffused source of light. It will cover every angle with an even intensity of light. This will avoid too many shadows, unless you want that effect.

This is not on the point of view of which configuration is good for the corals but rather what looks good on the eyes of the person looking at the corals.
