I've read pro's and con's regarding our usual biological sump filtration... use of crush corals, DSB... many say they are nitrate factories and is a catastraophe waiting to happen... some people say its the best and 'low maintennance'. comments please?

they should have enough water flow to prevent detritus and dirt buildup, if so, i think they will be fine.
i have a layer of suspended crushed corals in my 5foot long sump system. it is already colonized by pods. in fact, if i put a small shrimp there, parang nilalanggam. i think, in time, pod population will increase and will solve detritus buidup.

i will multiply by itself, but macroalgae will do wonders
but they are sensitive to chemicals.

you mean macroalgae will increase my pod population?

yes it will, especially those macroalgae attached to big rocks. halimeda is not attached to a rock, so i dont think it will house your pods.
